Marc Chagall (1887-1985).

An etching of a shepherd from the Bible Series.

Chagall was a prolific artist whose iconic works propelled him to the forefront of international art. Heralding his Jewish background, Chagall's compositions would range from romantic scenes to biblical imagery. In 1931 he travelled to the Holy Land in what became a life changing experience both spiritually and creatively.

Creating the Bible Series from 1931 to 1939 and again from 1952 to 1956. The first series of 105 etchings characterized by exquisite interweaving of lines hatched, scratched and scored are thought to be Chagall's greatest and most personal work as a printmaker.
