Joan Wanklyn studied at the Royal Drawing Society Schools and Chelsea Polytechnic, later to become Chelsea School of Art. After the second world war she attended the Central School of Art.
Joan Wanklyn is primarily known for her depictions of 20th century British Army ceremonial and operational life. Many of works hang in messes and museums including Sandhurst, the Royal Corps of Logistics museum and the Royal Hospital, Chelsea.
