
Douglas Portway (1922 - 1993) was a South African artist who came to Britain in 1957 and settled in St. Ives in 1967. Douglas Portway became involved in the British abstract movement of the 1950s and 1960s meeting such artists as Peter Lanyon, Terry Frost and Barbara Hepworth.
Douglas Portway has work in major British galleries such as The Tate, The Victoria & Albert and Manchester galleries.
In these later etchings he reflect on his versatility and early influences.
