George Fowler Jones was born in Aberdeen but spent the greater part of his life in Malton, Yorkshire.
He had an extensive architectural practice in York and was a pioneer amateur photographer.
Jones had studied lithography and drawing and was an accomplished draughtsman.
He exhibited a Cumberland landscape at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1872.
