The picture is signed and dated 1881 lower right.
Picture size: 61 x 81cm. Works by this artist do not often appear on the market. During his professional life he preferred to exhibit at the Royal Society of British Artists rather than the Royal Academy. It appears, as the Art Journal of 1863 commented, that Robinson was influenced in his choice of subjects by Dutch 17th century works, through the works of David Willkie. This tradition was embellished by Thomas Webster and the Cranbrook Colony, whose work Robinson would have seen in the course of Chelsea society.
